Solution

Fault finding for screen issues

If you would like to get the screen running again to display important messages at this time then please follow the instructions below. If another staff member is responsible for maintaining your information screen then please forward this email to them and copy us in so we can include their details on our system.

  1. Shutdown the computer and remove the power cable for about 20 seconds.
  2. Re-insert the power cable and the computer should bootup, if not push the power button. Ensure the TV is on.
  3. If all is well the content should begin playing within 3-5 minutes, if not see error corrections below.

ERRORS

  1. “No signal” – causes are:
    1. TV input is not set to HDMI. Use the TV remote to select the HDMI input.
    2. The computer is still off, If you saw the computer booting up then ignore this error, otherwise turn the computer on.
    3. The HDMI cable has pulled loose in either the TV socket or the PC socket. Pull both out and re-insert by pushing in firmly, try not to wiggle the plugs as this can loosen the connection.
    4. The computer is faulty and will not bootup, look for the light shining on the on/off button. If it appears to be faulty please call to discuss and possibly returning to us for assessment and possible replacement. A number of screen computers have been in use for 5 years + and as such may start to break down.
  2. “No internet connection” – causes are:
    1. If the system has a cable (cat5/6) connection, the cable may be unplugged either at the computer, the wall socket near the computer or the patch panel in the comms room (or the router/modem if no comms room). Check all connections looking out for the green and orange lights either flickering or on at the computer where the plug is connected.
    2. Wi-fi has dropped off, res-starting the computer will fix this error in most cases if not the router/access point may need rebooting then re-start the computer again.
  3. The screen appears to be frozen, messages are not playing or certain parts are not playing (sometimes a black screen with a bird on its back logo in the middle of the screen. This is due to a temporary loss of internet connection and can be rectified by re-starting the browser. Call the help desk number and we will happily do this for you provided the computer is online. Alternatively if you have a mouse and keyboard available/connected then Alt+ F4 will clear the browser and clicking on the Vivaldi icon will start the browser.
